Postumus was a Roman general under Valerian and Gallienus who rebelled in 260 shortly after Valerian was captured by the Persians. He gained control of the Roman provinces of Gaul, Britannia and Hispania and successfully defended them from barbarians and from Gallienus' half-hearted attempts to reconquer them. He was however killed by his own troops in 268, shortly after successfully crushing the rebellion of another usurper, Laelianus, when he refused to allow them to sack the city of Mainz after it had been been taken by Postumus' troops.

The coin featured appears to be an extremely rare unlisted type, featuring a military bust of Postumus facing left (he is usually wearing a laurel or radiate crown and facing right) with a galley and 'Laetitia Aug' on the reverse. The reverse type is though to refer both to Gallic Naval power and a visit to Britain made by Postumus in the early part of his reign. These Sestertii of Postumus are quite difficult to find at the best of times, so this unlisted sub-varient coin is highly unusual!

Coin is Almost Fine overall, but the portrait is much better.
